Jason Elam is coming back to kick at
Brookwood High School, and he’s bringing the rest of the
Falcons
with him.
The
Falcons
have scheduled a preseason scrimmage and other festivities for Aug. 7
at Brookwood. Called “Friday Night Lights,” the inaugural event drew
more than 8,000 people to Mill Creek High School last year.
Elam is a 1988 Brookwood graduate. During
his high school career, Brookwood played its games at Parkview because
the Broncos didn’t have a stadium yet. But over the years, Elam has
returned to Brookwood often to work on his kicking.
“It’s a really cool thing,” Brookwood
coach Mark Crews said.
One of Elam’s classmates, David Nelson,
coaches Brookwood’s secondary. They were seniors when Crews and
then-head coach Dave Hunter arrived in 1987.
The free scrimmage will be followed by an
autograph session and other activities.
“It will be about two-thirds practice
session and one-third social event,” Crews said. “They want to be able
to connect with the community.”
Friday, Aug. 7 also will mark the end of
Brookwood’s first week of practice. The Broncos will scrimmage in the
afternoon, with the
Falcons’
scrimmage tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m.
“It will be a big weekend at our place,
that’s for sure,” Crews said.
